Damone Hudson was just a regular bus driver on his daily route in Dayton, Ohio. Usually you don’t see anything to spectacular or peculiar on such routes but on this particular day, Damone saw something that peaked his interest.
Damone was driving across the Main Street Bridge that goes over the Great Miami River when he saw something. He spotted a woman, standing on the ledge of the bridge, about to jump. Upon seeing her, Damone immediately stopped his bus and prompted to talk her down.
He told her, “Ma’am, you look like you’re having a bad day, you know. Can I give you a hug?” He occupied her mind long enough until the police arrived then he went back to his bus route.
Later, Damone went on to say, “I just knew I needed to talk to her, I wasn’t trying to be heroic. I just saw someone that looked like she was definitely in pain or trouble and I just wanted to make a connection. Everyone’s going through something. Even if you are, just reach out and try to touch someone, even if it’s in a small way.”
Damone Hudson saved that woman’s life that day. If not for him, who knows what she would have done. Thank God for Damone. You could be Damone too. You can help out someone who looks down or just being kind. Gestures don’t have to be big, they just have to be done.
