Breaking Down The Preamble.

…We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America…

[We the people of the United States] This statement refers to the citizens of the United States.

[In Order to form a more perfect Union] This statement refers to the Articles of Confederation. It was the primary government document that our forefathers followed. It was quite limited and could not hold weight. When they wrote the Preamble, they wanted to create a document to better the government.

[Establish Justice] The Independence issues with England were still being solved so they wanted to ensure that everyone would be treated fairly.

[Insure Domestic Tranquility] Shay’s Rebellion was a relevant issue at the time and this statement covered the issue of peace within the borders.

[Provide for the Common Defense] This statement helped the country and its states with being able to defend themselves.

[Promote the General Welfare] The federal government would do as much as it could to promote the well-being of its citizens.

[Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity] This was to help protect the country’s hard-earned rights for liberty, unjust laws, and freedom from a tyrannical government.

[Ordain and Establish this Constitution for the United States of America] This said that the people created his document and the people give the country its powers and cemented this Constitution as the law of the land.
